Coursework Overview:
This assignment involves participating in a group-organised academic poster conference,
where each student will present their individual poster, followed by an oral question-and- answer (Q&A) session. The objective is to demonstrate your understanding of advanced
concepts in media studies by identifying a unique vantage point, research approach, critical issue, or perspective that distinguishes your work from that of your peers.
This assignment addresses Learning Outcomes 1 and 2, which include demonstrating an
advanced understanding of cross-disciplinary practices and methodologies, engaging in
literature-based research on media and related topics, and contributing to the development of collaborative group work designs.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of cross-disciplinary practice,
methodologies, literature-based study about media and related issues, concerns, and questions.
2. Develop group work designs and take responsibility for pre-determined individual contributions.
Instructions:
1. Group Formation:
You will be assigned to groups with your peers to collaboratively organise an academic poster conference.
2. Research Topic Selection:
Choose a topic within media studies that interests you. Your topic should explore a specific aspect or issue in media and communication, offering a fresh perspective or addressing a critical issue not extensively covered in class. Identify a unique vantage point or research
avenue and finalise your choice with your tutor.
3. Poster Creation:
Create visually engaging academic posters that clearly communicates your research topic, the methodologies used, key concepts, and findings. Ensure the posters are both informative and accessible to your intended audience.
4. Presentation:
Present academic posters that effectively convey the research topic, methodologies, key concepts, and findings visually.
Assessment Criteria:
Your individual performance will be evaluated based on:
• Understanding of Concepts: Demonstrated comprehension of advanced media studies concepts.
• Innovative Perspective: Ability to identify and articulate a fresh vantage point, research avenue, or critical issue.
• Academic Poster Presentation: Effectiveness in visually conveying research topic, methodologies, concepts, and findings.
• Use of scholarly sources and appropriate referencing (Strictly APA 7th edition).
