Group Project Written Report
|
The aim of the group project is to:
a. Provide students hands-on experience in conceptualizing
an information system to create competitive advantages for a selected organisation.
b. Develop students’ analytical skills, critical reasoning and interpersonal skills.
c. Reinforce concepts and strategies learnt in class and provide a context for their applications.
Students are required to form. groups of 4 - 6 for the project. The group will prepare a plan for introducing or improving information systems that will create competitive advantages for the selected organisation. The students should assume the role of a team of consultants engaged by the organisation for this purpose. The written report should be less than 1500 words excluding tables, charts, diagrams and appendices.
The report shall comprise research, analysis, and concepts application presented with the following attributes:
• Competitive advantage of the organization.
• Business process and a graphical diagram of the process.
• Business Information System – a proposed system design which will enhance the organization’s competitive
advantage and business process.

Group Project Presentation
|
The group will prepare a presentation (in PowerPoint file format) based on the highlights of the report. It should not exceed 15 slides in total. A soft copy of the presentation slides is to be uploaded to the Blackboard e-learning system.

COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS GROUP PROJECT
AIMS
1. Provide students hands-on experience in conceptualizing an information system to create competitive advantages for a selected organisation.
2. Develop students’ analytical skills, critical reasoning and interpersonal skills.
3. Reinforce concepts and strategies learnt in class and provide a context for their applications.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Students are required to form. groups of 4 - 6 for the project. The final group size will be determined by the lecturer depending on the class size and at his/her discretion.
2. Select an international or a local organization to analyse and work on for this assignment. The organization may be a profitable, government or not-for-profit organization.
3. Information gathering: Use the library resources, online databases, web, newspapers and/or personal contacts to gain information about the organization and its management of Information Systems.
4. Write a report of your work to the Chief Executive Officer to present your plan for introducing or improving information systems that will create competitive advantages for the selected organisation. The students could assume the role as a team of consultants engaged by the organisation for this purpose. The students as a group need to clearly communicate to convince the CEO to adopt the plan in their report.
The report shall comprise research, analysis, and concepts application presented with the following attributes:
• Competitive advantage of the organization.
• Business process and a graphical diagram of the process.
• Business Information System – a proposed system design which includes
relevant databases to enhance the organization’s competitive advantage and business process.
The report should also have a good balance of pertinent diagrams charts and tables wherever relevant to make it look professional and reading interesting. The report should be less than 1500 words excluding tables, charts, diagrams and appendices.
5. Prepare a presentation (in PowerPoint file format) based on the highlights of the report. It should not exceed 15 slides in total. A soft copy of the presentation slides is to be uploaded to the Blackboard e-learning system.
6. Each report shall include the Coursework Grading Form. as the cover page clearly stating the module title, group member names and their roles and date of submission.
7. The report is to be uploaded to the Blackboard e-learning system in Microsoft Word format. All pages must be numbered. The report shall include a table of contents and the paragraphs of the report are to be numbered.
8. Students are to submit their group project files on the date to be advised by the lecturer. Any late submission will be awarded zero mark.
